MAN IN THE MIRROR

MAN IN THE MIRROR was a number-one hit for singer Michael Jackson when released as a single in the spring of 1988. It is one of Jackson's most critically acclaimed songs and it was nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards. The song garnered massive airplay and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks. I chose this song because of its message AND I felt that we all could take a break from the hustle N’ bustle of life and put thing in perspective.

MEN, DON’T IGNORE THESE SYMPTOMS…

Male patients are notorious for failing to seek medical attention when they’re ill or feeling pain, and are much more likely than women to downplay their symptoms if they do finally seek care, doctors say. Guys are very prone to sticking their head in the sand and hoping when they emerge everything will be back to normal. It's a very, very bad idea. It’s an especially bad idea with the following five symptoms, for which men should seek immediate medical attention, physicians say.

1. CHEST PAIN – It could be indigestion or the body’s response to stress and anxiety, but it also could be an all-important warning sign of heart problems. The worst-case scenario is that it’s the symptom of a heart attack. "I tell my medical students that the most common symptoms of a heart attack is chest pain, and the second most common one is denial," Simon told CNN.com. If you’re experiencing chest pain or tightness, pain radiating from your chest down your left arm, or shortness of breath, seek immediate medical attention, doctors say.

2. AN EXPANDING MIDSECTION – Belly fat is the worst fat you can have," Harry Fisch, a professor of clinical urology at Columbia University, tells CNN. "A big belly is a sign a man has low testosterone levels. And the lower the testosterone, the greater the risk of diabetes and coronary artery disease." If you find your midsection steadily expanding, talk with your doctor about a weight-loss regimen or possible testosterone- replacement therapy.

3. ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION – Sure an occasional problem getting it up is perfectly normal, particularly as you age, but consistent erectile dysfunction can be a sign of psychological problems or serious physical ailments, including cardiovascular problems. See your doctor for a full physical exam, not just a prescription for Viagra.

4. FREQUENT URINATION – Having to pee more than usual—particularly multiple times at night—can be an early warning sign of prostate problems. It’s also a common symptom among diabetics with uncontrolled blood-sugar levels. "I'll ask a patient if he's getting up at night to urinate, and he'll say, 'Oh, yeah, two or three times.' I ask him if that bothers him, and he'll say no. I tell him it should," Fisch told CNN.com. If you find yourself spending an inordinate amount of time in the restroom, schedule an appointment for a full physical, doctors recommend.

5. LONG-TERM PRESCRIPTION DRUG USE - It might seem difficult to believe, but many men end up hooked on prescription medications—particularly pain pills—and aren’t even aware of it, doctors say. "Maybe they're taking medicine for back pain, and a couple of years later they're still on them,” Joel Heidelbaugh, a family medicine specialist at the University of Michigan Medical School, tells CNN.com. “They can't function without them, and they don't even know it." So if you find yourself popping pills every day for an old ailment or out of habit, talk with your physician about possible addiction treatment.

The other day I was doing my regular blog reading and I came upon a blog that didn’t permit me access. @ First I thought I made a mistake so when I tried to get onto the blog the message came up letting me know that I have to be invited to view said blog. So me being me, I decided to hit up the person via yahoo and ask what was going on. He then told me that a friend of his was denied a job because of something she wrote on her blog. Apparently companies are GOOGLING potential candidates to see if there is anything they can find out about them via their social networking sites. Of course her being a LESBIAN has NO bearing on her ability to perform @ her ENTRY-LEVEL-JOB…talk about THE TYRANNY OF THE (supposingly) MAJORITY huh? It ALWAYS get me how the INTELLIGENT persons within society TEND TO BE AFRAID OF WHAT THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND…I mean why waste your time N’ energy thinking about what someone else is doing in THEIR bedroom? And since it's none of their business, shouldn’t they oh I don’t know maybe hire the best person for the job instead of trying to find a reason NOT to hire someone? I feel that is an EXTREMELY poor reason to put a whole class of people in the very real garbage…don’t you? Why punish someone so you can feel superior to another? It is OBVIOUS that there is a SERIOUS case of little OR no self-esteem coupled with a HUGE inferiority complex that causes this type of behavior. This nearsighted N’ intolerant view of life FURTHER limits one understanding of the world. I suppose them seeing HOMOSEXUALS wildly dressed and bizarre as they participate in the pride parades colors their view. However that’s NO excuse because it is DUMB to judge an entire community based on a few…I know that there are times in life when one can claim IGNORANCE; however this isn’t one of those times…Our economy is in bad shape AND we need all hands on deck…And if some of those hands are attached to persons of the SAME-SEX PERSUASION SO BE IT! TO LOOSE A CHANCE TO HIRE SOMEONE BASED ON SEXUALITY IS VERY HURTFUL FOR BOTH SIDES. I KNOW THAT BLOGGING IS A MAJOR PART OF MY LIFE, IT IS THE ONE PLACE I CAN GO & BE ME & I FIND IT SAD THAT WE HAVE TO GO BACK INTO THE CLOSET BECAUSE OF HATRED & BIGOTRY…

A VICTORIOUS NIGHT...

From the moment I woke up yesterday, I wanted to just stay in bed with the covers over my head as I let myself slip into a pitiful state that is my life. However that all changed last night as I was reminded about how good I have it by a lady that asked me for some money @ a stoplight on my way for Noel. So I gave her the dollar that I’ve been saving for such an occasion…she took it with a smile and then asked me IF I HAD ANYTHING TO EAT IN THE CAR I TOLD HER NO…she then asked, IF I’D JUST COME FROM THE GYM OR SOMETHING (and yall if you’d seen me this body ain’t NO gym body)…FAR from it. I told her that I just came from home and she then told me to have A VICTORIOUS NIGHT…I was TOTALLY blown away by that and the smile she placed on my face QUICKLY left as I watched her walked away in rearview mirror while tears fill my eyes. I mean here I am feeling sorry for myself and this lady has NO food to eat, NO roof over her head OR someone to LOVE and keep her till things turn around…I have it better than her AND I THANK GOD for placing her in that spot so I can be reminded of who I am, where I am going AND what’s in store for me…This lady is NO doubt an angel, a keeper of knowledge and the holder of wisdom. In her plight she was able to bring me out of a place I didn’t belong. She was able to get me to LISTEN WITH MY EYES and give myself the undivided attention that I needed because DEEP down I know that there is MORE to life than what I am living @ this moment. And the sense of freedom, peace N’ joy that I crave will come as they are my innate birthright. She reminded me that the words AND ideas that I carry with me can shape my life AND drive me toward success AND happiness or failure AND distress. So when a NEGATIVE thought enters my mind, I will immediately replace it with a constructive OR optimistic one…For I know that with persistence, I can condition my mind to judge fleeting, self-defeating thoughts as trivial AND dismiss them…THOSE MERE WORDS UTTERED TO ME BY A LADY ON THE STREETS SHOWED ME THAT I HAVE THE POWER TO BE HAPPY & SUCCESSFUL AS I MAKE UP MY MIND TO BE…EVEN THOUGH STAYING POSITIVE WILL NOT HAVE AN IMMEDIATE EFFECT ON MY SITUATION, IT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE A PROFOUND & IMMEDIATE EFFECT ON MY MOOD…SO HERE’S TO ME HAVING A VICTORIOUS NIGHT THAT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY LEAD TO A WONDERFUL FUTURE…

If I were to say that I HATED THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE and not actual Christians; that would be blasphemous right? There is this HUGE part of me that thinks that the practice of CHRISTIANITY is immoral and that no one needs to be Christian…I mean it’s a LIFESTYLE choice and Christians can change! RIGHT? Hell that would be TOO easy; but a GAY man can dream can he? But as I write this, there is NO doubt that we GAY men AND women are the YING to the YANG of CHRISTIANITY. I mean think about it, we are public enemy number 1 and the church would be just a building with singing AND noise for NO reason @ all… The suffering we have endured at the hands of religion is limitless. They say that GOD DOESN’T MAKE MISTAKES…YET WE EXIST…How does one explain that? Hell God knew what were before we came so why would he allow mistakes like us to plague the world with our sinfulness? They DANGEROUSLY squander their moral authority by continuing a pattern of discrimination in the name of the lord. Funny how the Lord doesn’t need a mouth piece huh? Especially a mere man he himself created to serve him AND NOT act in his absence…I suppose with BOTH of us NOT having a choice, there can be NO moral responsibility. RIGHT? I mean CHRISTIANS choose to HATE and LAMBASTE us in the same vain we choose to be the immoral defects so they can have some purpose…If only the church could demonstrate GOD’S LOVE and reach out to us in the spirit of friendship rather than IGNORANCE or HATRED. I mean we ALL have fallen short of God's standards…SO NOW WHAT? I say they REACQUAINT themselves with their bibles AND try to understand what really is there. SHIT IF HOMOSEXUALITY WERE A MORAL THREAT, WON’T JESUS TELL US WE HAVE A DIVINE RIGHT TO HANDLE SUCH DEMONS? I WONDER HOW CHRISTIANS WOULD FEEL IF WE TOLD THEM THAT THEY ARE NOT FIT TO PARENT & SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO MARRY OR ADOPT? I CAN IMAGINE HOW AFRAID THEY’LL FEEL WHEN WE TELL THEM THAT THEY WON’T GO TO HEAVEN BECAUSE GOD CONDEMNS THEIR IMMORAL HEARTS? F&CK I WISH WE WOULD ACT LIKE THEM IF ONLY FOR A DAY…WOULD THEY CONSIDER US TO BE THE ANTI-CHRISTIAN SEVEN HEADED DEMON THE BIBLE TALKS ABOUT? I THINK NOT! I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE THEY’D FEEL LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS THAT CAN’T BREATHE BECAUSE THEY ARE @ THE MERCY OF PERSONS THAT SIMPLY DON’T WANT THEM TO LIVE…WHO KNOWS MAYBE IF THE TABLES WERE TURN, THEY’D THANK GOD THEY ARE SINNERS JUST LIKE US…
