IT'S TIME
I know that I am VERY late on posting this here, but as they say, 'better late than never' right?
In Australia, they have
this law called the Commonwealth Marriage Act. This disallows same sex partners from getting married. An
Australian group called Get Up! are working hard at getting that amended. Along with a petition to sign,
they have created a new video simply titled It’s Time to help bring awareness to the subject. The video has gone
viral not only in Australia but all across the globe.
In the clip, we watch as two men meet for the first time, go on a
few dates, meet friends and family, fall
in love, move in together, go through hardships
and the like. In the end, we watch as “Paul” takes to his knee to
propose to his man. Here in Canada, gay
marriage has been legal since 2005 and sometimes, I think it’s easy to take it
for granted. As
the video says, it’s time.

A FRIEND OF MINE IS DYING...
"A friend of mine is dying and there's nothing I can do,
like so many of us in the ballroom community, I was vocal, I was loud and I was
strong about whether my house won a trophy but I was quiet to the escorting,
drugs and unsafe sexual practices.
I laughed with him when he told me his
sexual escapades but didn’t bother to ask “hey did you have protected sex?”
When others escorted and prostituted I just looked the other way and went to my
office job. When they partied hard and used their particular “drug services”, I
turned and walked away quietly. When we went to clubs or balls, I spend plenty
of money to buy drinks or paid their admission but I never asked “Do you have
money for your meds?”
Now it’s too late and all I can do is sit with them cry
and talk about the good times. The good times came with a price my silence came
with a price. As I watch life fade from him every day I can’t help but to ask
why I didn’t do more, why didn’t we all do more? Right now my friend can’t
speak he can barely move, all he can do is look at me and his eyes speaks
volumes to me, to my soul. My friend is dying and there’s nothing I can
do."
CAN YOU TELL ME: ¿WHAT'S GOING ON?
I JUST WISH THAT I COULD GIVE THIS YOUNG MAN A
BIG HUG & GIVE HIM & SO MANY LIKE HIM A PLACE TO BE THEMSELVES, CAN
SOMEONE TELL: ¿WHAT’S GOING ON?

MONDAY MUSICAL MOTIVATION: MARRY THE NIGHT
"Marry the Night" is a song
by American recording artist Lady Gaga.
It was released as the fifth single from her second studio album, Born This Way(2011).
The song was written and produced by Lady Gaga and Fernando
Garibay, and was recorded on the tour bus during The Monster Ball Tour with Garibay.
Revealed in February 2011, the song was inspired by the energy of Gaga's
previous song "Dance in the Dark" and the love for
her hometown, New York City. The song was released for
promotion on Farmville, six days before the release of Born This Way.
"Marry
the Night" is a dance-pop song influenced by house and electropop.
The song features electronic church bells, a driving electro organ
sound and afunk-rock influenced breakdown.
The lyrics are about Gaga's love of the night and partying, while serving as a
homage to her hometown. The song received mostly positive reviews from critics.
Reviewers also found influences of Italian disco music producer Giorgio
Moroder and American rock musician Bruce
Springsteen in the song. After the release of Born This
Way, "Marry the Night" charted in some nations due to digital sales
from the parent album. The song debuted at 79 on the US Billboard Hot
100 and entered the Canadian Hot
100 at 91. It also charted in the Walloon region of Belgium,
South Korea and the United Kingdom.
I'm gonna marry the night
I won't give up on my life
I'm a warrior queen
Live passionately tonight
I'm gonna marry the dark
Gonna make love to the stark
I'm a soldier to my own emptiness
I am a winner
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm gonna marry the night
[Chorus]
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm not gonna cry anymore
I'm gonna marry the night
Leave nothing on these streets to explore
M-m-m-Marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
Oh m-m-marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
[Lady Gaga - Verse 2]
I'm gonna lace up my boots
Throw on some leather and cruise
Down the streets that I love
In my fishnet gloves
I'm a sinner
Then I'll go down to the bar
But I won't cry anymore
I hold my whiskey up high
Kiss the bartender twice
I'm a loser
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm gonna marry the night
[Chorus]
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm not gonna cry anymore
I'm gonna marry the night
Leave nothing on these streets to explore
M-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
Oh m-m-marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
[Bridge]
Nothing's too cruel
To take me from you
New York is not just a tan that you'll never lose
Love is the new denim or black
Skeleton guns or wedding bells in the attic
Get Ginger ready cos I'm coming up front
Won't poke holes in the seat with my heels cos that's
Where we make love
Come on and run
Come on and run
[Chorus]
I'm gonna marry the night
I'm gonna burn a hole in the road
I'm gonna marry the night
Leave nothing on these streets to explore
M-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
Oh m-m-marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
Oh m-m-marry m-m-m-marry m-m-m-marry the night
I'm gonna marry
Marry
I'm gonna marry
Marry
C'mon c'mon the night

"I GOT AIDS"
Not-so-subtle
rapper Lil’ B named his 2011 album I’m
Gay (subtitled I’m Happy) in part to raise
awareness about homophobia (even though he’s straight).
Now he’s named a recent single “I Got AIDS,” but what it lacks in subtlety and lyrical depth, it makes up for in chill beats and an upfront message about using condoms and getting tested.

HIV/AIDS, THE POPE SAID...
"Above all, it is an ethical problem. The change of behavior
that it requires – for example, sexual abstinence, rejection of sexual
promiscuity, fidelity within marriage – ultimately involves the question of
integral development, which demands a global approach and a global response
from the Church. For if it is to be effective, the prevention of AIDS must be
based on a sex education that is itself grounded in an anthropology anchored in
the natural law and enlightened by the word of God and the Church’s
teaching." - Emperor Palpatine, at the closing Mass of his visit to Africa.

TOO HOT
Whenever he performed this
song live after its 1995 release, Coolio made it a point to rattle off statistics about AIDS and
HIV, quickly quieting once enthused crowds. Then he'd end his informative talk
with this advice: "Ladies, if he don't got no condom, he don't get
none." The song sampled Kool and the Gang, using their 1980 hit 'Too Hot'
as a metaphor for HIV infection.

OLDIE, BUT GOODIE: ¡FUCK A CONDOM...HAVE SOME HIV MEDS INSTEAD!
Each
era has its phenoms, the thing that changes our assumptions of what can happen
to mankind; and this is the age of HIV/AIDS. This
disease though not as deadly STILL poses
a significant threat to us, yet SO many
of us are NOT taking
precautions. There seems to be a POPULAR misconception
that we might be able to avoid this disease by claiming ignorance and that is
just plain STUPID! Maybe
on some other level of consciousness we can, but here on earth we NEED to take action against this
disease.
Clearly, SEX is more exciting without a
condom…they’re not very convenient, they’re not sexy, they don’t feel
natural…However they are THE only
thing between you and HIV/AIDS; and
if not for the dark dealings I've witnessed in the GAY community, I’d say we could actually take that risk…but
I’d be DEAD wrong.
This
game of SEXUAL musical
chairs we play where the one left standing is one that has to find a seat
elsewhere is reckless AND foolish.
It seems that idea of NOT dealing
with disease makes more sense since most of us just hang back, dreaming AND waiting…just watching as we lose
the community to this killer. I suppose taking some HIV medication is a better thing to do because somehow,
someway it’ll make EVERYTHING
PERFECT…AGAIN…So while we wait, the INVITED fear that told us that we were NOT worthy holds us HOSTAGE, keeping us from living…Now all
we have is doubt AND unhappiness…
SO WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO GET HORIZONTAL
& HE TELLS YOU I CAN’T USE A CONDOM BECAUSE IT KILLS THE MOOD OR HIS
ERECTION, PLEASE ASK HIM FOR SOME HIV MEDS INSTEAD. EVEN IF HE
DECLARES THAT HE IS FINE & DOESN’T HAVE ANY DISEASES YOU STILL SHOULD ASK
FOR THOSE PILLS IF YOU DECIDE THAT YOU BELIEVE HIM. I’VE HEARD EVERY EXCUSE
UNDER THE SUN AS TO WHY A MAN REFUSES TO WEAR PROTECTION.
HOWEVER, LIVING IN THESE TIMES DOING THINGS LIKE THAT IS A ONE WAY
TICKET INTO THE DANGER ZONE…PLAYING WHAT IF IS A DUMB THING TO RISK…ALL ONE HAS TO
DO IS VISIT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL & SEE WHAT TAKING HIV MEDS DOES
TO A PERSON & I AM QUITE SURE THEY’LL THINK TWICE BEFORE WALKING DOWN THAT ROAD THEMSELVES…AS
ALWAYS THE CHOICE IS YOURS…
